I'd recommend checking out Motsameta (Martyrs') monastery, Ubisa (not exactly near Kutaisi, 60km away, but assuming you're travelling from Tbilisi, it's on the way and well worth checking out for dem frescos). Finally, Katskhi pillar is also in the region.
